The design team worked closely with Dell’s Experience Design group to develop a consolidated high capacity storage solution in a minimized footprint that works in concert with M1000e Blade Computing chassis. A storage solution that is capable of being fully virtualized and is fully redundant, the Equalogic M4100e was designed to be a small data center in a box. Together, Dell and the design team defined the preliminary architecture, usability modeling, and detailed mechanical design of extraction mechanisms for both HDD carriers and the storage blade chassis. The storage array manifests as a translating drawer within a drawer, so the entire storage module and individual disk drives can easily be removed. This unique functionality combined with a simple, yet sophisticated UI allows ultimate ease of deployment, use and maintenance in mission critical data storage, networking and computing environments for the Cloud.
